Our History Cosumnes River College Named “cosumnes,” which is a miwok indian name meaning, “people of the salmon.”. the los rios board wanted a name that would be an expression of the people, its local history, and its community folklore. the miwok tribe inhabited the area in the 19th century and lived near what is now called the cosumnes river. 1967. Our diverse student body. cosumnes river college has an enrollment of approximately 14,439 students (fall 2018), with 62.4% of the student population under the age of 25, and 10.4% over the age of 39. as one of the most diverse two year public colleges in the country, we believe our strength is found in our ethnically diverse student body.
