The glory awaits us, but the suffering is now. in the section we cover tonight, verses 18 27, we’re going to see two main divisions. first, we have a new hope, verses 18 25. secondly, we have a new help, verses 26 27. in these sections that we are going to look at, we’re going to see three groans or three groanings. In romans 8:14 17, paul introduces the subjects of sonship and suffering. romans 8:18 27 explains in greater detail the ministry of the holy spirit to suffering saints. this present life inescapably involves suffering and groaning as we look forward to the glory of god and the full benefits of our sonship at the return of our lord. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the spirit, because the spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with god's will. (romans 8:18 27) we experience a frustration because we, even as believers, have not yet arrived at the place we are going in our christian lives. here he is talking about a longing, a groaning.
